Let me paint a picture for you today. Imagine a farm. Now imagine you put in hundreds of thousands of dollars and countless hours to plant your crops. You bought the land, prepared the fields, sowed the seeds and worked day and night to protect and nurture your plants. Then, one day, you decide your crops aren’t growing fast enough, so you uproot all your plants and move them to a new farm.

What happens to your crops now? They die, right? You would not have a harvest to reap. All of the time and effort you put into your farm would be wasted.

You’re probably thinking, “Dani, that’s just silly! I would never do that! I would never rip up my roots and try to plant them somewhere else, just because the plants weren’t growing fast enough or not producing enough fruit.”

But the reality is, that’s what too many people do. Most people fail simply because they walk away from what they have already built, seduced by shiny objects, better opportunities or different jobs.

In all my years of studying people, I’ve noticed most people have a tendency to start and stop things, but they just don’t stick with it long enough to have real success. They fail to see anything through to completion. They always have their feelers out, searching for the greener grass somewhere else.

A lot of people will “try” something, but very few will actively pursue anything. They stand at the edge and dip in a toe, but they never go “all in.” They “dabble” in lots of different jobs, businesses or industries, but they never “put down roots” in any one of them.

This seems to be the norm in our society today. But here’s what most people don’t realize: if you get started in something and only give yourself 90 days to succeed, or otherwise you’re outta there, you set yourself up to fail. If you uproot yourself and move around, always looking for greener grass and better soil, you will never get rooted anywhere. And it’s impossible to succeed without roots. This goes for a job, business, marriage, parenting… everything.

Whether you realize it or not, every day you are building equity, regardless of whether you work for yourself or for someone else. When you uproot yourself, you lose everything you’ve worked for – equity in that business – emotional equity, financial equity, mental equity, sweat equity. When you quit, you lose all your equity and have to start all over again from scratch.

Opportunity is ALWAYS right in front of you. You always an have an opportunity to grow and learn and make something out of what you currently have. You continue to build equity. Sadly, 98% of the population does not see it that way, and you become limited by what you cannot see.
