Use Or Abuse Your Influence
Let’s talk about your influence and how much power that influence can actually have on other people.
Today, let’s spend a little time in front of the mirror. Does that sound uncomfortable? It used to be very uncomfortable for me.
I used to see myself as a fat, ugly, stupid person who could do nothing right. I saw myself the way my stepfather trained me to think of myself, when he called me all of those horrible things. I actually believed him. I want you to understand who you are is based on how you see yourself. AND, you are limited by what you cannot see!
For example, if you view yourself as fat and ugly like I used to, you can’t see beyond that. Your view of your destiny is limited by the mindset you can’t do anything right, no one will ever want you, you’re ugly or fat.
But let me tell you, life and death is in the power of the tongue! When you look in the mirror, what life or death are you speaking into your life? Are you feeding the vision of a “nobody” who will never obtain success? Or are you speaking into a destiny God has assigned for you?
“Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he.” (Proverbs 29:18). This morning, you are going to create a new vision for yourself. Write down how you want to see your character, your health, your marriage, your career, your finances and your future. And start speaking life into that! Anyone without a vision will perish.
Without a vision there is no great destiny. Instead of that great destiny He has planned for you, you end up settling into someone else’s mediocre vision: “My dad died at 50 – so will I!”
In the Bible, you can see multiple examples of people who had this amazing vision and fulfilled the Lord’s destiny. You also can find examples of a few people who had no vision, or completely self-centered visions, and how it destroyed their lives.
Vision played a huge role for David – he faced a giant! Daniel used his vision to stand up for truth when he and the other political advisers faced death for failing to interpret a dream. Esther’s vision was bigger than herself; she risked her life in order to save an entire nation! That was her destiny! She didn’t mope around saying she was ugly and not worth anything… her political influence saved an entire nation of people.
Can you imagine if Esther had the negative self-image so many members of our society put on themselves? That death you speak into your life tells you to be quiet when injustice happens, to hide your true self.
Meanwhile, look at Judas whose vision focused on greed and it led him on a path to suicide. Solomon’s greed for power, money and women led him to become powerless and unsatisfied. And his heirs were cursed, to boot! Your sins will follow your children, just as you have inherited your parent’s sins, poor habits or limited mindsets.

Don’t be that person – who STILL beats yourself up over a bad decision years ago – living in total regret and fearing yet ANOTHER mistake. You CANNOT live like that!
Think about it…when was the last time you sat down and REALLY thought about what you’re thankful for or just went around the dinner table and said 3 things you were grateful for? And Thanksgiving doesn’t count!
