Have you ever felt stuck in a dead-end job? Have you felt like there’s just no room to grow… you’re trapped on a staircase leading to a glass ceiling? Maybe you don’t want to grow in that particular company… that maybe you should just move on to a new job? You’re not alone…
It’s estimated 57% of people are not satisfied with their jobs! The two biggest reasons for this, according to CBS News, is people feel underpaid and have no opportunity for growth.
That is heartbreaking! You feel overworked and underpaid, going nowhere on a treadmill, instead of climbing a ladder up to the top of the company.
I heard a story from one of our clients during our daily show, and I just have to share it with you today. It really blew my mind and inspired me – and I know it will do the same for you.
Melody called the show to share her experience working for a small skincare manufacturer. She didn’t like her job, but Melody decided to prosper where she was planted and to do the absolute best she could. And you won’t believe what happened!
Using this new mindset, Melody started a new division in her company. In the first year, she grew sales to $42,000. The second year, she did $250,000 in sales, and the year after she did over $500,000! That is exponential growth, in a job she previously hated and in a company where she saw no opportunities.
Do you see what Melody did? She didn’t like her job, but she knew she didn’t have to stay stuck. Most people in her situation would have quit! Or at the very least, they would have dragged themselves to work every day, doing just enough to not get fired and stayed upset with the lack of growth opportunities.
But Melody didn’t sit around waiting for her boss to promote her. She didn’t complain about her “dead-end job” or her boss. She didn’t quit! She invested in herself, learned new skills and made herself extremely valuable to her company. When you promote yourself, you set yourself up for promotion. She set out to better her skills, to ascend her own personal staircase and was naturally promoted in her career!
Whether you love your job or you hate it, whether you feel you’re underpaid and unappreciated, whether you are totally dissatisfied or content with your current position… that’s not the point!
The point is: promotion starts with you – you have to decide to step up or stay on the step where you currently are. If you keep doing what you’ve been doing, you will have what you’ve always had.
So, what have you done lately to make yourself more valuable? What new skills have you learned? What old skills have you mastered? Today I want you to really think about what you can do right now to make you more valuable to your company. What specific skills will give you an edge and help you get better results? What will make your boss want to promote you?
I can tell you right now – Melody is a shining example of what we should ALL be doing every single day! Let me know below what you’re going to start doing, today, to step up and position yourself for promotion. Let’s face it, 57% is a heck of a lot of unhappy people! Who knows, 57% of your friends might need this motivation, so be sure to Like and Share today’s message on Facebook and Twitter.
