This morning I want to spend a little time in front of the mirror with you. Does that make you a little uncomfortable? It used to be uncomfortable for me.
For years, I saw myself as a fat, ugly, stupid person who could do nothing right. I saw myself the way my stepfather trained me to view myself, when he called me all of those horrible things. And, I actually believed him! You need to understand, you live your life based on how you see yourself. And you are limited by what you cannot see!
For example, if you view yourself as fat and ugly – like I used to – you can’t see beyond that. Your view of your destiny is limited by the “I can’t do anything right, no one will ever want me, I’m ugly or fat” mindset.
But let me tell you, life and death are in the power of the tongue! When you look in the mirror, what life or death do you speak into your life? Do you feed the vision of a “nobody” who will never obtain success? Or, are you speaking into a destiny God has ordained for you?
“Where there is no vision, the people perish.” (Proverbs 29:18). This morning, you are going to create a new vision for yourself. Write down how you want to see your character, your health, your marriage, your career, your finances and your future. And then start speaking life into all of it! Anyone without a vision will perish.
Without a vision there is no great destiny. Instead of that great destiny He has planned for you, you end up settling into someone else’s mediocre vision.
In the Bible, you see multiple examples of people who had an amazing vision and fulfilled the destiny God Himself planted in them. You also can find examples of people who had no vision, or a completely self-centered vision, and how it destroyed their lives.
Vision played a huge role for David when he faced a giant! Daniel used his vision to stand up for truth when he and the other political advisers faced death for failing to interpret a dream to the King’s satisfaction. Esther’s vision was bigger than herself; she risked her life and used her her political influence to save an entire nation! She didn’t mope around saying she was ugly and not worth anything… she rose up to fulfill her God-given destiny!
Can you imagine if Esther had the negative self-image so many members of our society adopt? The death you speak into your life tells you, “Be quiet when injustice happens, hide your true self.”
Meanwhile, look at Judas, whose vision led him down a path to suicide. Solomon’s greed for power, money and women led him to become powerless and unsatisfied. And his heirs were cursed, too! Your sins will follow your children, just as you have inherited your parents’ sins, poor habits or limited mindsets.
Are you ready to fix on a vision for your life and step into the destiny He has set for you? What words of death have you spoken over yourself? How can you change your words into words full of life, instead? Let me know your thoughts below!
