Have you ever experienced something that just left you, well… speechless? Something you never, EVER thought could happen to someone like you – someone with your past or education level or gender? But then, man alive, this unthinkable thing does happen and you feel so overwhelmed and humbled and flat-out SHOCKED!

Let me tell you a quick story, and then share an amazingly-encouraging experience with you today.

First, in case you didn’t know, I haven’t always been successful. I have NOT, by any stretch of the imagination, had anything handed to me on a silver platter or born with a silver spoon in my mouth. In fact, quite the opposite!

Believe it or not, I grew up on welfare in a home filled with intense violence, and textbook drug addicts for parents. I was emotionally, physically, verbally and sexually abused regularly. The man I thought was my father (6’10” and 350 pounds), would routinely grab me by the throat and shove me up against the wall, just so he could cuss me out at eye level. I was kicked across the room and beaten, and watched my sisters suffer the same abuse. Violence, trauma and dysfunction were all I knew growing up.

(It was not until I was almost 18 years old, I found out the man, who had treated me this way my entire life, was not even my father! My biological father was from Nicaragua!)

After being exposed to horrors no child should ever see or experience, I ended up pregnant at 17 and then, homeless at 21. I drank, used drugs, partied day and night, slept around, and well on my way to becoming nothing more than a product of my horrific childhood. And to be honest, it would have been SO easy for me to just give up, right then and there.

Sadly, too many people with a terrible past, just stay there. So many people seem to believe, just because they had a rough start, nothing can ever change. But that is NOT the case!

Today I am passionately in love with my husband, Hans, the mother of 5 and grandmother of 7 (soon-to-be, 8). Additionally, I’m a multimillionaire, businesswoman, nationally-syndicated TV and radio show host, as well as, bestselling author, international speaker and trainer.

When I started out in life, so many things worked against me. With a multitude of hardships to overcome and battles to fight, I didn’t believe someone like me could succeed in anything. But I am living proof, it doesn’t matter how you start out; what matters is how you finish!

Honestly, I’m STILL shocked by what has taken place in my life. Even as I write this to you now, total disbelief just floods me. All the really wild things happening, completely humble and stagger me.

And, in the latest jaw-dropper, I will be featured on the “Steve Harvey” show today, doing what I absolutely love: helping people understand they are MORE than their past, their mistakes and their current circumstances.

It literally brings me to tears to think about what my God has done in my life. He pulled me up from an ash heap and gives me strength and wisdom daily, to fulfill the destiny He put inside me. The fact He could use ME to influence other people’s lives blows my mind! But, He works through me to pull the best out in others, spur them on to greatness and call out their destiny from deep within.

I’m not telling you this to brag or gloat. Far from it, because I was NEVER “Most Popular” or “The Girl Most Likely To Succeed”!!! In fact, with my past, none of this ever should have happened!

But I am telling you, it doesn’t matter who raised you… it doesn’t matter where you come from… it doesn’t matter how smart you are… it doesn’t matter how poor you are… the bottom line is, it DOES NOT matter how you start in life! Circumstances NEVER determine your success in life. All that matters is how you finish.

Imagine YOUR happy ending. What does it look like? How does it feel? Who’s there? My friend, you have to understand something today. It IS possible… SO possible!

Look, if a rejected, dejected, abused, misfit kid like me – from the wrong side of the tracks, with the wrong parents and the wrong circumstances – can rise up out of THAT to become more successful than I ever thought possible… so can YOU! I really believe it. But, it doesn’t matter if I believe it… do YOU believe it??
