Pivot or Fight the Wind? The Choice is Yours

We have entered into a new economy. And in this new economy, we all have a choice to make: face the change and adapt to a new way of working, thinking, and living. Or, fight the winds of change and continue on as if nothing has changed.

In just a blink of an eye, it seems the entire world has changed. We are all doing things very differently than what we once considered “normal.” Everyday, we are redefining and rediscovering what “normal” even means.

We have entered into a new economy. And in this new economy, we all have a choice to make: face the change and adapt to a new way of working, thinking, and living. Or, fight the winds of change and continue on as if nothing has changed.

In a recent webinar, Dani had a great illustration for what we’re all facing:

The wind has changed. Are you going to hold on to your plan or are you going to pivot the boat and find the wind?

It’s clear: those who will succeed during this time are the ones who can pivot. They are agile. Adaptable. Flexible.

One key way to embrace this change is to change your mindset about your work. Whether you’re working for someone else or you’re thinking of starting your own business from the ground up, there is one type of person everyone wants to work with: it’s the employeepreneur.

What exactly is an Employeepreneur?

  • An employeepreneur is someone who strives to be much more than what their job description requires.
  • An employeepreneur not only knows the mission of the company, but lives it and promotes that mission in everything they do – both on and off the clock.
  • An employeepreneur goes above and beyond what is asked. And is happy to do so.
  • An employeepreneur understands the importance of not only advocating for but also protecting their company’s leader(s).
  • An employeepreneur thinks of the company’s goals as their own and takes personal accountability for how the company performs.
  • An employeepreneur doesn’t ask “what do I need to do to succeed?”. Rather, they want to know how they can help others succeed.

And here’s the best news: you don’t need a fancy degree, expensive training, or even years of experience. Anybody can be an employeepreneur. It just takes a mindset of “this is my company” coupled with an incredible attitude. And in today’s ever-shifting economy attitude is everything.

The one thing no one can ever take from you is your skill! Making an investment in yourself is the smartest choice you can make. Many will spend thousands of dollars going to school for a degree that is supposed to make them primary candidates for high-paying jobs. Others turn to expensive programs that can waste your time and hard-earned money. The traditional paths to employment aren’t enough in today’s economy. JOB DOMINATION will teach you the skills you need to explode your career at a fraction of the cost of traditional paths.

As things change on a day-to-day basis, many people are asking, “how do I set myself apart?”. When you are an employeepreneur, you are highly-valued. What’s more, employeepreneurs are often the ones with the highest level of job security.

Pro tip: ALWAYS take notes! It makes you look smart, ready, and capable. Never assume that someone is taking notes for you.

Dani teaches there are several paths to becoming an employeepreneur. Here’s a list of five:

  1. Be a voice of encouragement for your organization. Encouragers have high value in the marketplace.
  2. Wholly commit in all that you do. Without commitment, there is no ownership. And with no ownership, there is no success.
  3. Adopt an attitude of excellence in your work. Just doing enough to get by is not enough – especially now.
  4. Always ask, “what can I do to make a difference? How can I bring more value?”
  5. You will rise up in your organization when you don’t need to be managed. When you are the one who follows up with your supervisor, you show that you’re managing your time and taking initiative. Success cannot happen without initiative.

PRO TIP: Write down words of encouragement for people in your office or on your team. Look for opportunities to encourage people. It can be as simple as, “you look great today!”

The “secret” to success is really no secret at all: work with diligence, focus on doing your best, and always put in more than what’s expected. Remember, you are in control. You have the power. You hold the key to success.
