A recent study by the Heritage Foundation, a conservative think tank, found that American’s dependence on federal government assistance increased 23% in just two years. 67 million Americans now rely on some federal aid (housing, health care, welfare, food stamps, education and other programs that were traditionally provided to needy people by local organizations and families). The report shows that spending on dependence programs accounts for more than 70% of the federal budget, yet 49.5% of American’s paid zero net income taxes in 2009 (that number has increased since then, its now over 50%). Historically, whenever a majority of people start voting themselves benefits from the public treasury at the expense of others, the nation is toast.
