This week is Thanksgiving, and as we head into a season of gratitude, it is always a great time of year to assess what you might be taking for granted in your life.
When I first became a millionaire, I totally bought into this crazy over-the-top lifestyle. I bought the big house with gorgeous views of Yosemite National Park. And then I bought the ridiculously expensive furniture to fill that mansion. I had the jewelry, the wardrobe, the cars…
Until I realized my life was cluttered with STUFF. The stress it caused me to keep that house clean, keep the yard maintained and the amount of expense that came with all this window-dressing of “success” took a huge toll on me. One morning God convicted me totally. I just heard this voice in my head asking, “Who is all this for?”
Avoid the major pitfalls of success and stay on track!
When it comes to money, I see people fall into the same pitfalls over and over just as they start seeing some success. The financial world is full of landmines and traps. Equip yourself with these 3 money skills to map your way easily around the battlefield.
Because sure as heck God doesn’t care if I live in a shack or a castle. My husband, Hans would be happy in a lean-to by the beach. My kids didn’t really need any of it. Here my life was full of stress, bills and STUFF and it was for no one but my own selfishness. I realized I had been sold by the media this idea of what wealth was supposed to look like.
What is your idea of wealth? Today I want you to take a minute and write it down. Even if you’ve done it before, your idea might have changed as your life and priorities have changed.
Maybe you think the big house is worth it, and that is totally fine! There is no right or wrong answer to what wealth is to YOU. But here’s what I learned on a personal level. For me, wealth isn’t in stuff. If you count your wealth exclusively as something you can write a check for from your bank account, you’re missing the boat.
There ARE other ways to gain wealth without even having money. You could be wealthy in abundant, strong relationships. Or wealthy in good health. But creating wealth in money, it doesn’t really exist. All that money could disappear in the blink of an eye and leave you with nothing! And then what have you got? The stress, the bills and a bunch of STUFF. The stuff won’t pay your bills, grant you a good marriage or promote you to a fulfilling career.
Are you entering this season with the mentality of “I want, I want, I want?” Or are you focused on the abundance and wealth that is already in your life? Do you want to work to achieve more stuff? Or do you want to work to achieve actual wealth?
Tell me what your idea of wealth is and be sure to “Like” and “Share” today’s message. Let everyone in your life and circle of influence know their value to you and encourage them to add up the “wealth” of their lives!
I want to share the source of my spiritual wealth with you this Wednesday during The Spiritual Equipping Broadcast at 8 pm ET/7 pm CT, so be sure to write yourself a reminder and join us then!
In great faith,
