What would be the all-time greatest gift you could think of for your birthday? Is it going on an extravagant vacation with your honey? Having a surprise party with all your friends? Or maybe it’s just being debt-free! Last week I celebrated my birthday and let me tell you – it was one for the books!

If you’ve been around the DaniJohnson.com community for awhile you’ve probably heard me talk about how much I hate presents. Even when people buy me a card for my birthday, I’m thankful… but in the back of my head I still think, “I wish you’d saved the few dollars on the card and put it toward someone who could really use it.”

I just don’t need that stuff! It means so much more to me when people spend money saving orphans than a gift or a Hallmark card ever could.

Which is why our community totally blew me away this year. YOU donated over $85K for the Sons of The Martyred Ones in just a few hours! That is CRAZY!

WOW, I can’t even begin to thank you enough. This birthday was history-making for me. So many gave to help the orphans instead of buying me a card or a gift and I am beyond grateful for this amazing community!

The Sons of The Martyred Ones is a charity that has been on my heart for a few months now. Harry Gomes Ministries has been supporting an orphanage in India for nearly a decade. They feed these kids, give them a family, a home and educate them. Recently the government of India made a change that would not allow orphanages to house kids from different states. They came into Brother Harry’s orphanage, removed these boys from their home and put them on a bus back to their hometowns and back on the streets.

Since then we’ve been scrambling to turn the orphanage into a school that offers housing and to bring all the boys back home. Because of you, these efforts are becoming a reality! For me, I’ve put a purpose to my money to save these orphans and others like them. The doors this mindset has opened for me since I turned from my obsession with gifts and junk simply could not fit in one letter.

Our country needs to give up its greed for junk, power, sex and fame. But you have to be the instigators of this change. Start by sowing a good example within your family, and passing this message on to your coworkers and friends. Your circle of influence could start living these values right now! And what a difference that would make.
