Are you one of the 48% of Americans dreaming of becoming an entrepreneur? That number, coming from Business News Daily, seems pretty high doesn’t it? Especially considering only 13% of Americans actually are entrepreneurs.
Maybe this has been a goal in your life for many years and you just don’t know how execute it. So while we are talking about your quarterly goals, let’s discuss how we can make this dream a reality.
Fox Business reports business start-ups are at an all-time low, meaning now is the perfect time to become an entrepreneur. There is a huge need for this in our country… right now!
Get over it!
Your circumstances do not define you! But if you are using them as an excuse, your excuses are defining you. Would you rather just accept the hand you’ve been dealt or start living the life you really want?
“But Dani, who wants to start a business in this economy?” I understand the fears and excuses you’ve made up for yourself. And some are very legitimate! Six in ten business owners say running a business is harder today than ever before not only because of the economy, but they face the challenges of new technologies and increased competition.
Yet, Fox Business writer David Mielach said, “Despite all the challenges small businesses have faced in the past five years, seven out of ten entrepreneurs say they would start their businesses all over again.” Why? Because the benefits to creating your own business are HUGE!
So let me talk you through a few steps to make your entrepreneurial “dreams” a part of your quarterly goals.
Step 1: Identify a need. You have to find a need in your community, circle of influence, wherever. Essentially, what are you going to sell?
Step 2: Improve your skill sets. Whether it is learning how to increase sales, sharpening your technical abilities or researching the current market and your potential competition.
Step 3: Outline what you need to get your business going. Maybe you just need a phone and your laptop. Go beyond that – how much money do you need to make before you can quit your current job? How many hours do you want to work?
Step 4: Break it up into smaller goals. What could help you get one step closer to making this a reality today? Setting up your e-mail? List smaller goals and figure out what you can accomplish this quarter to make you an entrepreneur.
When I started my first business all I had was a payphone and some handwritten flyers. But I was also homeless with little luxury for the option to fail. If you have a job right now, you already have a safety net! At this point, the only thing standing in your way is YOU.
I truly want to see more entrepreneurs and stronger leaders rise up in this country. This is what America is all about!
