Today I want to discuss something you might see as controversial. You see, there are over 300 mentions of angels in the Bible. If angels had such a demanding presence then, they probably are just as relevant in the world today.

“Dani, are you serious? You believe angels/messengers still come and talk to people?” I absolutely do believe they exist! God is the same yesterday, today and forever. Why would he send messengers then and not now?

Let’s talk about what an angel actually is. In the Bible it was described as “Then the woman came and told her husband, saying, ‘A man of God came to me and his appearance was like the appearance of the angel of God, very awesome. And I did not ask him where he came from, nor did he tell me his name.’ ” Judges 13:6.

A large portion of the passages describe angels as a man, never a woman. Yet when they show up, people are not afraid. Most of the time they think they are talking to a regular person. The only angel who strikes fear is Gabriel, who always starts by saying, “Do not be afraid!” each time he appears.

“Then Manoah entreated the Lord and said, ‘O Lord, please let the man of God whom You have sent come to us again that he may teach us what to do for the boy who is to be born.’ God listened to the voice of Manoah; and the angel of God came again to the woman as she was sitting in the field, but Manoah her husband was not with her.” Judges 13:8-9

In this passage you see Manoah asking for God to send His messenger. And it sounds like a crazy request, but God granted it! Manoah asked for specific instructions from the angel and the messenger delivered them.

Based on these passages in the Book of Judges, I have two questions for you today:

1. Do you believe in messengers from God? In my opinion we always expect a man with a halo, a bright shiny aura and some wings to come deliver a message. But the Bible describes his messengers as being just like you and me. God gives very specific instructions; it’s just that most of the time you simply aren’t listening. Think about a time in your life you have ignored a specific message.
2. When was the last time you asked God for a huge, bold, ridiculous thing? Is your faith just to ask for a good day at work, safety traveling or is it the type of faith that believes in angels and miracles? In the past, I’ve asked for spiritual healing and received it! Yet I still struggle with a limited vision for God’s work.

I am not sure about your faith or your God, but my God is capable of anything. It has been so long since I’ve even asked for the type of work I know He is capable of. It’s been so long since I’ve even gone to Him for a message, instructions, counsel.
