If You’re Not Moving Forward, You’re Going Nowhere!
Millions are unemployed, and millions more worry about being laid off. Yet others are getting promotions, raises and bonuses… in the same job market…
Good morning! Do you own your work? It seems like a simple question but you wouldn’t believe the number of people who go to a job day-in and day-out and do not take any ownership in the work they produce.
If you have no pride or ownership in the company you work for, your work will reflect it. And the worst part is, you probably blame it on someone else. “I can’t do my best work because…”
I want to introduce you to a really simple mindset today. Because the idea of ownership could have a huge impact on your career. If you’re the kind of employee just going through the motions, completing the bare minimum of tasks and blaming your manager, environment, economy for the quality of work you put out… listen up!
This becomes even more critical if you are the owner. When the team fails, the ultimate responsibility is yours… no matter what. Sometimes business owner are the most apt to shift blame! I hear it all the time, “It’s the economy”… “I didn’t have the right team to make it happen.”
There is no way around it… It’s about you. You may simply lack the specific knowledge or proper skill sets to succeed in particular circumstances.
Maybe you lack good people skills, leadership skills, the right time management skills or even lack new technical skills to get the job done. You’ve got to face the truth, and while taking the blame might hurt your ego momentarily, it will help your leadership skills and your career growth in the long run.
True leadership comes from figuring out what works, accepting it when something doesn’t work and then equipping yourself with a better way to do things. As long as you’re giving in to your ego and shifting the blame onto someone or something else, you are stunting your growth.
Tomorrow when you walk into your job, whether you are the owner or even an employee, I want you to pretend you own the company. If you were the owner and this was 100% your livelihood, what would you do differently? What would the work you produce look like? Would you allow little excuses to be the cause of low-quality work?
I promise this simple shift in your mindset will change your perspective and your work. This change in your job mindset will set you up for a huge promotion in your career.
