Today, I want to talk about something with you… your financial vision! It’s very possible you don’t even have one, yet.
When I first started making money I didn’t have one, either. So naturally I just threw my money everywhere. I bought a crazy expensive wardrobe, jewelry, a big house. Then I had to buy a bunch of furniture to decorate the big house.
It took Hans and I ten years to stop spending like fools. It was an insane cycle of making money and constantly losing it all. Our financial background is spotted with embezzlement, debt, wasteful spending and junk that never amounted to anything. Man, ten years is a long time to make repeated financial mistakes. And we lost a LOT of money. Do you want to go through the same trial and error stages I went through?
Then I realized the big house, the designer wardrobe and fancy cars were all about proving something. I wanted to show people I had MADE it! But I was horribly in debt and still spending every dollar I earned. And I thought that big-house debt and the stress of keeping up with the Jones’s was what I was supposed to do with my money.
What I want you to think about today is, the notion that our society has “sold” you an idea of what wealth looks like and is supposed to be. They’ve sold you the idea that you need these brands or those cars so everyone knows how rich you are! Or somehow you need those items in order to achieve a certain status.
If you don’t have a financial vision, it gets sucked into other people’s financial vision that society has sold you. Money is always looking for a place to go. You have to tell it where to go! Otherwise, the first time you see a special at some restaurant your money is going right there.
I want to tell you a secret about millionaires and people who are financially independent (since not all millionaires are financially independent). You see, those people have a purpose for their income know exactly where every dime of their money goes. The rest of the population has no idea. If I asked you what you spent your last paycheck on it would like sound like, “Oh yeah some food and like a few other things…”
Because if you don’t have a plan for it, it WILL get sucked away left and right. The best financial advice I can give you is to find out what 98% of the population is doing and then do the opposite! Those people are broke because they spend everything they make (and sometimes they spend more than they make). Find out what they’re buying and don’t buy it! Is everyone going to Arby’s for lunch? Don’t go!
When it comes to creating your financial vision, you have to define what “making it” is for YOU. Develop a vision that is all your own, not one someone else has TOLD you is financial success. If you create a vision based on the WRONG motives, you are setting yourself up for a loss.
Pursuing your financial vision shouldn’t be an added source of stress! It should relieve the stress and pressure in your life. I encourage you to create the vision of success you want to achieve.
