What Financial Future Are You Planting?
Have you ever planted red pepper seeds and been surprised when you don’t get strawberries? You might be thinking, “No way, Dani!” I hate to say it, but you might […]
Have you ever felt like you were on a roller coaster ride that just won’t stop? Up and down – twist to the right, then sharply to the left – then upside down! Your emotions don’t know which way to go and you just want to scream, “When will this end?”
Today I want to spend some more time talking about the story of Elijah from I Kings. As his journey continues to unwind, Elijah comes upon a widow and her son. She had no grain or food to feed herself or her son, much less Elijah.
But, when Elijah tells her to make bread, lo-and-behold the small amounts of grain and oil miraculously become enough to make bread for weeks to come. But the story doesn’t end there!
“Now it came about after these things that the son of the woman, the mistress of the house, became sick; and his sickness was so severe that there was no breath left in him.” (I Kings 17:17)
After saving this widow and her son from starvation, it sounds weird that suddenly the son just dies, right? Talk about your ups and downs! They were just saved from starving to death and now THIS!
In biblical times, a son held hope for the family’s future. She was a widow, so her son was future income, provision and protection. It is the son’s responsibility to take care of his mother. She was not only facing a devastating emotional loss, but it also meant she was destined to become a beggar on the streets.
For this widow, any dreams of a future died with her son. Then Elijah stepped up and “He called to the Lord and said, ‘O Lord my God, have You also brought calamity to the widow with whom I am staying, by causing her son to die?’ Then he stretched himself upon the child three times, and called to the Lord and said, ‘O Lord my God, I pray You, let this child’s life return to him.'” (I Kings 17:20-21)
“The Lord heard the voice of Elijah, and the life of the child returned to him and he revived. Elijah took the child and brought him down from the upper room into the house and gave him to his mother; and Elijah said, ‘See, your son is alive.’ Then the woman said to Elijah, ‘Now I know that you are a man of God and that the word of the Lord in your mouth is truth.'” (I Kings 17:22-24)
Now, imagine the widow’s son represents your financial dreams, your traveling dream… whatever big dream you had that died when you hit a rough patch. The same spirit that raised this boy from the dead, that also raised Jesus from the dead, is in YOU!!
If you have dreams from your past that have long since died and been buried, speak life into those dreams! Cry out to God like Elijah did with fullness of faith. That power for resurrection lies within you. Shut down your fear, pain, worry, doubt and walk in the Resurrection Power of the Messiah!
Everyone gets hurt sometimes, fails or drops the ball. Equipping yourself to move past that and keep your dreams alive is important. Walk in faith, not in a graveyard of dead dreams. I hope this food for thought helped inspire you today. Make sure you leave me your comments and Like and Share today’s post.
