Years ago, children went to school to learn the “Three Rs”…Reading,’ Riting and ‘Rithmatic. And in those simpler times, these basic skills equipped those long-past generations for successful pursuits. However, parents also played a much more significant role in preparing their children for the challenges they would face in life and imparting practical “life skills” not covered in that one-room schoolhouse by the school marm. Today, a typical school curriculum certainly incorporates a LOT more than the “Three Rs,” but too often we assume this also includes the vital life-lessons they will need to function as successful adults in the real world. WRONG!! After spending over 16,000 hours in a classroom between kindergarten and high school graduation, most kids still don’t even know how to balance a bank account!
