Is Debt INEVITABLE? Maybe NOT!!!
Have you made excuses for your debt? You find something reasonable – even justifiable – to charge. So instead of seeking options, you make the easy choice…easy because society views it as “just part of life!”
Last November on our radio show, I had the privilege to speak with Elizabeth Miller, who along with her husband, owns Ben’s Soft Pretzels. Elizabeth and Ben became clients almost three years ago, and since then I’ve had the honor to hear how their success continues to grow. I just saw another article about their booming business and the plans to open more stores in the Midwest.
Their success totally inspires me! When I think back to that interview, I remember Elizabeth telling me how it all started. The two of them started a bakery making cookies from their own home and selling them at a flea market!
One day, Elizabeth approached a business vendor to ask if she could bake her cookies there. In the back of her mind, she thought, “What am I asking? This is ridiculous!” But do you know what he said? “I’ve been looking for someone to do exactly that!”
From this simple start, Ben and Elizabeth moved into the pretzel business, taking over a stand at the local farmer’s market. When they took over the pretzel stand, they had zero experience in baking pretzels. They were Amish and had never even tasted one before! But Elizabeth took her baking knowledge and made her own recipe. Yes, they failed a lot on those first few beginning experiments.
Walking into a business and just asking someone a question like that does sound crazy, but what did Elizabeth have to lose? Nothing! I want you to realize entrepreneurs just possess a different mindset. Most people would never think to start a business selling cookies. They wouldn’t walk into a random business and ask to bake cookies there. Most people wouldn’t think to take over a business when they had zero knowledge of the product!
Most people are too busy thinking how to start, what business to go into or what if they failed. “What if the business said no?”
I just want to motivate you today to turn on that entrepreneurial brain. Most people don’t see all the opportunities for growth, income or success all around them. People like Ben and Elizabeth aren’t worrying about the how or the what, they just went with it! Seeing their success story come up again in the news reminded me how important this mindset is.
A while ago, one of my husband’s childhood friends asked me, “How do you guys know what stocks to invest in?” Apparently he’d missed the boat, he’d had the opportunity to invest in companies like Snapple and buy some pretty cheap stock before they became wildly expensive. I remember saying to him, “You just keep listing all these opportunities, maybe you should just take ONE of them already.”
If you want to start your own business, if you want to get promoted or to increase your income, how you view those opportunities has to change! Stop worrying about which one is the right one, or what will happen if you fail at it. Very rarely is the perfect opportunity with zero chance at failure going to walk by and hit you in the face. So stop waiting for it!

Right now, there is a goal deep down inside of you that you are afraid to commit to, afraid to write on your goal list or even to say out loud.
Have you ever noticed that when you’re in a bad place spiritually, everything else seems to be a total mess?
