Is Your Greatest Strength Your Greatest Weakness?
Are you a “clean freak”… maybe a tad OCD? Or are you the person who always has a messy room, car, kitchen sink?
This past weekend, there was a whole day dedicated to loving on your father. It reminded me of another Father in our lives, here for us every day and in every way.
So let’s spend a few minutes today talking about the heavenly Father, you and I both just happen to share. Because that Father has such amazing plans for your life!
Think about this… have you ever wanted something so bad and set your mind on how to get it? And then, despite your efforts, nothing ever happens? “I can do nothing on My own initiative. As I hear, I judge; and My judgment is just, because I do not seek My own will, but the will of Him who sent Me.” (John 5:30).
The truth is, when you are very persistent, deliberate and focused on a certain outcome, you blind yourself to the true will of the Father. Have you ever experienced that? It’s like sticking your head in the ground and ignoring His will, while God just sits and waits, allowing us to eat our words and deal with the consequences of our stubbornness.
In my own life, I’ve been completely guilty of pressing for my own will. While thinking about it over the past few days, it hit me that sometimes I’m afraid to ask His will because I assume what He wants for me, is not what I want… and is certainly lesser or smaller than what I want. Which is SO NOT TRUE!
As Jesus says in the Book of John, “For I have come down from heaven, not to do My own will, but the will of Him who sent Me.” (John 6:38). Jesus was the ultimate example, and now it is our turn to embrace the Father’s will in our lives! Not our own stubborn, pigheaded will that eventually leads to a dead end somewhere.
Today, I just want to encourage you to seek your heavenly Father. Not just ONE day a year – you should be checking EVERY day! Ask yourself honestly, “Is this my will or is this God’s will?” You might be surprised how deeply in the sand your head is actually buried.
God the Father has something so much bigger in store for you, just as He did for His own son. It was painful, but the reward was also that much greater!
