Retrain Your Brain For Healthy Habits
Only 8% of people actually successfully achieved their New Year’s resolutions goals last year! What makes this year different?
Have you ever met a know-it-all? One of those people who nods knowingly at everything you say, like they already knew it? Or, they try to impress you with their knowledge? They may even be the one who corrects your spelling and grammar constantly on Facebook!
I want you to think for a second about how this type of person makes you feel! Do you enjoy being around someone like that? HECK, NO! But I hate to break it to you… while you may not be a full-blown know-it-all, you just might have more in common than you think.
Have you ever gone to a training seminar and sat in the back, rolling your eyes and thinking, “This is all common sense! I don’t even know why I’m here. I KNOW all of this already!”? Have you ever tuned-out your boss or coworker, as they try to explain something, because you already know how to do it?
Let me tell you a little-known secret in the business world. If you already know everything, you will never learn anything! And who the heck wants to work with someone who isn’t teachable? Who wants to hire a know-it-all? (Hint: NO ONE!)
Teachability is a major key to success! If you want to succeed in your career, you MUST be teachable.
It’s not just about being a know-it-all, it is also an “I-know-more-than-you” attitude, too! I see it all the time. Look, I’ve been working with people from every industry imaginable… for over two decades. And I have witnessed people tune me out the second they find out about my faith. Or they stop listening after realizing I didn’t go to college. People even think they can’t learn anything from me because I’m a woman, or because my background is in a different industry than theirs… the list goes on. They think, “Oh, I don’t have anything to learn from HER.”
The unteachable person just mentally argued with everything I have already shared today. He or she is like thousands I have met throughout the world, who never end up succeeding. They are always right – just ask them and they will TELL you how right they ARE! Something else goes hand-in-hand with unteachable people who are right all the time – they are often broke, too.
Here’s the deal: it’s time to dump the ego and unteachable mindset. People all around you have success in one – or many – areas of their lives, despite their differences in IQ, faith, gender or age. And when you are teachable, you find them. When you are unteachable, you think you are them!
When you think you are them, you’re stuck. You won’t be able to grow in any area of your life, because you think you already know how to succeed. Look around! Is your life perfect? Are you debt-free and wealthy beyond belief? Are you working in the career of your dreams? Are you surrounded by perfect relationships? If yes, then congratulations! If not, then it’s likely you still probably have something left to learn!
If you’re constantly pursuing success and learning how to attain it, you will end up head-and-shoulders above the rest of the world. Why? Because everyone else is pursuing what… entertainment, gossip, the latest and greatest fashions and gadgets, houses and cars they can’t afford, more food than they could ever eat? But NOT you!
Today, I want you to focus on becoming teachable. Ask for help! One of the biggest keys to my own success, is finding other people who are far more successful than me, and then learning from those people! I am constantly learning and growing, because that is a constant focus in my life. And I encourage you to do the same.
Wouldn’t it be awesome if everyone chose to stay teachable?! Think about how much better your office, community, and even, your home would be, if people stopped acting like they knew it all and started learning from each other! My friend, you were designed to be unique and authentic. You were designed to achieve your goals.
People have it so backwards today. They think a good relationship means you never have an argument or a disagreement. That couldn’t be further from the truth…
