Is Debt INEVITABLE? Maybe NOT!!!
Have you made excuses for your debt? You find something reasonable – even justifiable – to charge. So instead of seeking options, you make the easy choice…easy because society views it as “just part of life!”
Without a change of course, there can be no change of destination… such a powerful statement and SO true. Think about it! In life, we often expect a different destination, but we stay on the same road and are shocked when we don’t arrive where we want.
Success is really not that difficult. For example, if you have a goal to take a trip somewhere, it’s really very simple. When you’re booking that reservation, the first questions you have to answer are: where are you departing from, where do you want to go and what are the dates?
Let’s say you chose an airplane as your method of transportation. That plane has a course, and that course leads to the destination. Say you’re leaving from San Antonio, TX on June 16th, and you’d like to return home on June 20th.
So, you head to the airport in San Antonio and board the airplane. That pilot has a fully-charted course to lead the plane and its 250 passengers to their chosen destination of Los Angeles, CA.
Well, your success is equally simple. The problem is, we come from this “lottery mentality” that seduces us into expecting our “destination” to just fall out of the sky and land on us.
If the destination is to become debt-free, they think they’ll get lucky someday – whether it’s winning the lottery or just waiting for the “debt fairy” to come take it away. Or, some people pick getting a job promotion, becoming the VP of a company or running a very successful business, as their destination.
Unfortunately, their chosen course will NOT lead to that destination. Whatever your desired destination, you have to examine your course, to determine whether or not it will actually take you there. If your destination is having a harmonious, passionate, fulfilling marriage and family life, you have to make sure you’re actually headed there.
Now let’s go back to our pilot. Exactly what did the pilot have to learn? How to fly… how the plane mechanicals work… how to land several hundred tons of steel – and its cargo – in case of an emergency. Throughout any flight, the pilot must be able to solve problems at any point along the way. Pilots have to learn a shocking number of skills to be able to chart the course, take the plane 35,000 feet in the air, and stay on course, to ensure all of the passengers safely land at their destination.
And it’s the same for you – whether paying off your debt, growing in your business or career, succeeding in marriage or raising successful kids. Regardless of where you want to go in your life, it’s the same… for your health, or even feeding orphans or volunteering your time with the elderly. We don’t have ANY problems picking a destination.
The issue is charting a successful course! Not only do you need to chart the course, you must evaluate – What skills do I need to get to MY desired destination? Bottom line: If your current course is NOT taking you where you want to be, without a course-correction, your destination will never change.
Sadly, most people have chosen a course that does NOT lead them to where they want to go. And then, of course, some people have not even picked out their destination. Others have charted a course, but when they hit some turbulence, they quit. They quit when they run out of skills… instead of gaining more skills!
It takes skills to reach your destination, skills you can LEARN! You can push through the places where you have run out of skill, or you don’t know how to solve a problem, or you don’t know which direction to go. You can invest into more skill so you can learn how to solve that problem. Just like a pilot who runs into a thunderstorm, who has honed the skills needed to navigate through it and exactly how to correct course to reach the desired destination.
So today, I want you to evaluate your course. Will it get you where you want to go? If not, you either have to change course… or change your destination. And if you change your course, what skills do you need to successfully chart-out your course-correction and get to your destination?

While you may HATE the idea of budgets, in truth, it’s just a way to reach your financial, business, personal, relationship, and even health, goals…a budget actually FREES you to do the things most important to YOU!
The more you and I can stay teachable and the more wisdom we gain from others who are successful, the better off we’ll BOTH be. And this, my friend, allows us sidestep regret in the future!
