You know what I find really interesting? The results from recent studies by several different staffing and consulting firms are positively SHOCKING! Are you ready for this? According to the staffing firm ManpowerGroup, TWO out of THREE people are not satisfied with their jobs. CNN reported ONE in THREE people say they will be seeking other employment within the next year because of job-related stress and dissatisfaction. WHAT?! Seriously???
But THAT’S not even the most shocking part…
An article from “Fox Business” came across my desk last week, offering “acceptable” reasons to leave your job, including: you’re bored, your work has stopped teaching you, you’ve found something new or you’ve lost sight of your career goals.
The article also stated, “If you’re no longer being challenged at work, it’s likely your work is suffering. This might be a great time to break-up with your current position and move on to something new.”
But, here’s what I know: ALL kinds of so-called career “experts” out there are quick to tell you quitting your job and finding a new one is the answer to your work dissatisfaction.
My friend, that is NOT the answer! If you’re waiting for the perfect job or opportunity to come along, so you will be totally satisfied… If you are waiting for your kids to be perfect and not give you any problems ever again… If you are waiting for the right spouse to make you totally happy forever… You need a reality check!
Dominate The Job Market & Control Your Future
Landing
(and keeping) a job in today’s job market can be tough. That’s why it’s important to do everything you can to position yourself for great opportunities and learn how to get those opportunities to come knocking on
your door. Never again will you worry about unemployment, layoffs, or being passed up for a promotion. You will dominate the job market today!
Here’s how!
Our society is so focused on whether or not something “satisfies” them, yet they don’t know how to find satisfaction in what they’re currently doing. They see an article like the one in “Fox Business” and even if they AREN’T dissatisfied in their job, they start to believe they ARE. They see boredom presented as an acceptable reason to leave a job, so guess what? Soon they’re complaining about being bored at work!
One thing leads to another, and next thing you know, they are completely dissatisfied and miserable in their job. Yes, this employee who was once a hard worker and happy in their job, is now convinced they’re in a “dead-end job.”
One career “expert” told “Forbes”: “A dead-end job is one where you don’t see any opportunity for growth, or where an everyday task seems like a burden instead of an achievement, or where there is no appreciation or acknowledgement for your work.” REALLY??? HELLO!!! Wake up!
If you wait for a growth opportunity to come knock on your door, you’ve got a problem. If you don’t see any opportunity for growth in your current position, then guess what… your job is not the dead end – YOU ARE!
Your perception becomes your reality, whether it actually occurs or not. You will always be limited by what you cannot see. If you grumble and complain about not having the right opportunities, you will NEVER find any opportunities. Complaining causes you to focus on what is wrong instead of on fixing the problem.
You’ve got to focus on finding satisfaction and opportunities to grow. I promise, you WILL find them!
The truth is, no matter what your job is, there is always room for growth. There is always opportunity to improve. If you are bored in your job, don’t go looking for another job! Look for new skills you can learn and new needs you can fill inside of your company. If you feel like you are underpaid or under-appreciated, don’t walk away! Look for ways you can increase your value.
You must prosper where you’re planted. I know it’s easy to think if you just had that perfect job or if you married that perfect person or if you had the perfect kids, you wouldn’t have any of the problems you’re facing right now. But the truth is, none of that stuff really matters. It wouldn’t matter if you had the perfect job… if you’re not looking for satisfaction, you will NOT be satisfied.
So it all comes down to this: Find satisfaction in your work. When you work with excellence and diligence and are invested in your company, you will find satisfaction.
Have you ever experienced either side of this equation – being totally dissatisfied or totally satisfied in your work? I’d love to know what you think. Tell me what makes you “satisfied” in your work. I really love hearing your feedback and looking forward to seeing what you have to say about The Daily Fix today.
Ya know, we have both heard people all around us complain about their jobs or bosses, or even those who worry about not being able to find a job.
