Are you a “lazy” worker? Maybe you don’t think you are, because, honestly, it’s become part of the cultural norm to answer personal emails, check Facebook and watch YouTube videos throughout the day. You see other people doing it and just accept it as part of the job.
But the marketplace pays for VALUE. And your skill sets determine your value! Some people would rather blame the marketplace, instead of improving their skill sets or completing more productive tasks.
How much of your time do you “waste” on personal tasks, literally stealing those paid-for hours from your employer? Anytime you’re not doing something productive or job-related, you deduct from your value in the marketplace.
Think about it. An employee is not paid to answer personal emails. They are not paid to text their friends. They are not paid to chit-chat with their coworkers. An employee is paid to work.
Now think about your workday… when you are diligent? What can you do to help your company become more efficient?
- Turn off your phone!
- Sign out of Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube.
- Set distraction-free times in your workday schedule.
- Stop stealing hours from your company!
- DO WORK!
You will accomplish more than anyone else around, if you simply stay focused on producing results. You have a choice every time you sit at your desk. Either you choose to be a part of the “lazy” employee culture that wastes time and complains about their job. Or choose to listen to this message and create your own honorable work ethic.
Make that your focus today. Ask yourself, “What can I do to produce more results?” In fact, that should be your focus every day. What can you do to help the company succeed?
Honestly, it shouldn’t be a hard decision to choose to invest into a culture of honor! Not only will you experience higher job satisfaction, but you set yourself up for promotions, raises and new opportunities.
I’d love to hear how you plan to be more focused at work! Let me know how you will apply this in your workplace, to increase your value – and your paycheck!
